The jobs report for April 2022 contains mixed signals on the overall employment level. The establishment survey shows non-farm payrolls increasing from 150.886 million to 151.314 million, a rise of 0.428 million. The household survey shows that the number of employed Americans decreased from 158.458 million to 158.105 million, a decline of 0.353 million.

Overall, 47.5 percent of the US population was employed last month.

Last month, 1.705 million workers went from being employed to unemployed, a slight increase from March 2022.

In the last 12 months, there were 19.111 million unemployment events, which was equal to 12.3 percent of the average employment level over this period.
